Challenge of Champions

On November 10th, Butler Catholic School, in conjunction with the Nonpublic School Services of the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV, held the annual problem solving competition, “Challenge of Champions.”  Over 175 students participated, representing 9 nonpublic schools including, Butler Catholic School, Holy Sepulcher, Kennedy Catholic Middle School, New Castle Christian, St. John Paul II, St. Kilian, St. Luke, St. Vitus and St. Wendelin.  This year’s theme competition was “Challenger Deep.” Students in grades 4th-8th were placed on grade-level teams formed from the various schools, and competed in seven “ocean-themed” games.  The Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV has held these games for students since 1994, and Butler Catholic has hosted the games consecutively for over 1o years.  A very special thank you to Mrs. Peggy King, MIU IV Act 89/Title I Resource teacher for organizing this wonderful event.  Mrs. King said she organizes the games to help build camaraderie between students.  “I enjoy watching the children come out of their shells, and build a comfort level with students from other schools.  It is my hope they build new friendships, and look forward to seeing each other year after year at this competition.”
