Academics
At Butler Catholic, we are concerned about the individual progress of each child. The size of our student body allows teachers to individualize lesson plans around the strengths and challenges that our students face. The rich academic curriculum offered at BCS is an integration of traditional teaching techniques, hands-on discoveries, student-centered activities and grade level interactions in a Catholic environment. Our English and Reading programs help all students to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to think clearly and read independently and strategically. A hands-on approach to Mathematics is emphasized to teach students through models and problem solving. Social Studies and Science instruction assist students in becoming knowledgeable, engaged citizens. Enrichment lessons offer each grade level the opportunity to engage in critical thinking, creative, team-oriented activities. Standardized testing is not emphasized, but rather is seen as one tool – among many others – that helps our faculty gauge student progress.
Faith Development
Our authentically Catholic school community encourages children to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Through guidance in prayer, religious education, and service, children are encouraged to build the Kingdom of God on earth. The students in second grade have an exciting elementary school year as they prepare to make their First Reconciliation and First Communion. Second graders also participate in an All Saints Day school play as well as take part in Living Stations of the Cross during Lent. All students attend mass once a week in the school chapel--thus offering them the opportunity to grow in their relationship with Jesus--and participate in other faith activities, such as Eucharistic adoration.
Enrichment
A holistic approach to education is taken at Butler Catholic School which is why an essential elementary education also includes classes in Art, Music, Physical Education, Religion, Foreign Language and Computer Technology. This allows students to begin to identify and develop all of their God-given abilities and talents which are promoted and celebrated at Butler Catholic School.
