We would like to encourage: respect for property
respect for others
respect for self

The check/card/detention system has proven to be a defined way for students to take responsibility for their actions. THEY ARE TO CARRY THE CARD WITH THEM AT ALL TIMES EXCEPT LUNCHTIME. IT IS TO BE KEPT IN THEIR AGENDA BOOK.

Detention is held the first day of the week from dismissal until 3:00 p.m. for students who have received the specified number of checks during the previous week-currently, 5 for grades 5 & 6 and 4 for Jr. High students. The teacher reviews the cards on Thursday. Every Thursday, each student will bring home his/her card for you to review AND sign. Unsigned or lost cards merit a "detention." It is the child's responsibility to inform you on Thursday that he/she must stay the following Monday. Children failing to stay for detention will receive an "automatic detention" for not being there.

One check will be given for:

LACK OF RESPECT FOR PROPERTY - desks, lockers, books, dining room, playground, lavatories, parish grounds or school property.

GUM IS PROHIBITED IN SCHOOL

LACK OF RESPECT OF OTHERS - unacceptable language, name calling, fighting, snowballs, church misconduct, exhibiting poor attitude, etc.

LACK OF RESPECT FOR SELF - not being responsible, unexcused tardiness for classes and or homeroom; violation of dress code, not having school supplies, not returning required items such as signed tests or homeroom forms, etc. A check is given for missing, late or incomplete homework.

More serious infractions as well as cases of students who have served 4 detentions per quarter, will be handled individually between parents, the homeroom teacher, and the principal. Loss of privileges will be considered at this time. For continuing inappropriate behavior, other action may be taken, e.g. suspension, parent assistance in class, in-house movement, etc.

Each Friday is a NEW BEGINNING for getting checks.

Students who have completed the quarter without getting 4 detentions, will participate in a "reward outing." It is the goal that EVERY student will participate in EVERY OUTING.

Effective 9/17/03
