Girls in Science
Girls in Science is an after-school group organized and led by Middle School Math and Science teacher, Mrs. Chobot, to encourage girls to explore and pursue careers in science. Mrs. Chobot arranges professional women from many different fields of science, including engineering, medicine, dentistry and more, to come and speak about their jobs at the group’s monthly meetings.
This month Dr. Melissa Karski, D.M.D., M.D.S, came to speak to the group about what it is like to be an Orthodontist. The girls learned that Orthodontists are specialists in moving teeth and aligning jaws, and the education required to pursue a career in this field. The girls then had a chance to practice what it is like to be an Orthodontist themselves, by using tools to place colorful bands around the metal brackets of a model jaw. Thank you Dr. Karski for being a wonderful role model to our young BCS women!
