Blessing of the Animals October 4th
Today, Thursday, October 4, 2018, on the Memorial of Saint Francis of Assisi, a “Blessing of the Animals” service was held at Butler Catholic School. Fourth grade students hosted the service and were invited to bring their pets to school which included cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, fish and even a chicken! The rest of student body was invited to bring a stuffed animal to be blessed. Deacon Mitch Natali led the blessing, and at the end of the service presented Sister John Ann with a check for $4,000 from the Knights of Columbus Butler Council #866 to be used for tuition assistance to aid our current students. The scholarship monies provided are in memory of Edward Pawlowicz, to continue his work and legacy in Catholic education.
“Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures. You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air and animals on the land. You inspired St. Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters. We ask you to bless this pet. By the power of your love, enable it to live according to your plan. May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation. Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen.”
