6th Grade Maple Sugaring Field Trip at Jennings Environmental Education Center

Butler Catholic sixth grade students enjoyed a beautiful day outside Tuesday, February 27th at the Jennings Environmental Education Center in Slippery Rock, PA where they learned all about the seasonal tradition of maple sugaring.  The program began with an indoor introduction on how a tree functions, and how sap from the tree becomes syrup for the breakfast table.  Students then went outside for a guided walk with park rangers where they were able to measure, drill and tap trees themselves.  Click here to see pictures of our students in action at Jennings Environmental Education Center.
