5th Grade DARE Program
A special thank you to Officer Anthony Sawl from the Butler County Sheriff’s Department for leading our 5th grade students through the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program each Thursday morning for the next 10 weeks. The program is designed to teach young people skills to lead safe, responsible and drug-free lives. Officer Sawl has been in law enforcement for 34 years, and discussed the risk he and all public service members take each day at their jobs. He then pulled a small wooden cross from his bullet proof vest pocket near his heart. “This job is a calling for me” stated Sawl. “I have to have faith that I am going to make it home every day to see my wife and kids again.” Students listened intently as Officer Sawl encouraged them to make good choices, and reminded them that the choices they make have positive and negative consequences. At the completion of the program, a special graduation ceremony will be held for the 5th graders in the auditorium.
