D.A.R.E is
a program the Fifth
grade students participate
in for ten weeks. It
is a program to help
them recognize and
resist the pressure
that may come upon
them in their life.
The program is presented
every year by Lieutenant
Karenbauer of the
Butler County Sheriff’s
Office. D.A.R.E. stands
for DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION.
At the end of the
ten weeks, the students
must write an essay
of what they have
learned. Each year
there is a winner
of the best essay.
This year’s
winner was Angela
M. One of the most
interesting thing
they did was when
they role played
how to get out of
harmful or violent
situations.

On
Friday December 8,2006
the Performing choir
went to the Creche.
The Creche is a big
nitivey scene. It
is also the only
one in the United
States. It was cold
and they sang for
a half an hour. The
bus was full of students
and parents. Sister
John Ann even went.
The choir sang carols
like The Little Dummer
Boy, Away in a Manger,
and Hark the Herald
Angels Sing. Fr.Lengwin
was invited and he
came. He gave the
Performing choir
an ordement. It was
Fr.Lengwin idea to
build the creche.
I would like to thank
Mrs.Feagin for taken
the choir to the
Creche.

On Saturday December
2nd, the new Robotics
Team at BCS went
to a Carnegie Mellon
competition. The
team arrived at the
competition at 7:30
A.M. This
competition lasted
for about nine hours. There
were three competitions. For
the first one, Joe
H. and Philip K.
went to the competition
table to get points
for the missions
by running their
operated robot. They
got 71 points out
of 400. They
did well even though
they had some mechanical
difficulties. For
the second phase,
Philip K. and Ben
M. went to the table
to do missions. They
got 36 points. Next,
Max M., Zach D.,
Sam C., and Brendan
C. did a nanotechnology
presentation. For
the last competition,
Brendan C. and Max
M. went to the table
to repeat the first
mission. The
BCS team ended up
in 49th place. “We
did well for only
having 3 months of
experience when others
started in first
grade,” said
Mrs.Chobot. Every
team got medals for
participating.
