2007
Dear
Parents,
Many
thanks to those
of you who attended
the PTG’s “Meet
the Teachers Night.” It
was edifying to see
that you took the
time out of your
crowded schedules
to be present at
this school event. A
big part of a student’s
success in school
is the home/school
communication. Thank
you for being there.
There
were a few things
that were discussed
that you need to
know. Please
note:
- Changes in the
SCHOOL CALENDAR:
- MONDAY,
OCTOBER 8 (Columbus
Day)
Butler
Catholic WILL
BE IN SESSION
- FRIDAY,
JANUARY 18
Butler
Catholic WILL NOT BE
IN SESSION
- MONDAY,
JANUARY 21 (Martin
Luther King, Jr.
Day)
Butler
Catholic WILL NOT BE
IN SESSION (as
scheduled)
- TUESDAY,
JANUARY 22
Butler
Catholic WILL
BE IN SESSION
These
changes coincide
with the revised
Butler Area School
District’s
calendar that I received
after our calendar
was done and I didn’t
note the changes
made.
- The
storm that moved
through Butler
right before school
began really “zapped” us – our
computer system
was struck. As
a result, School
Notes may not always
be up. Our
system keeps “fading
in and out.” Larry
Protivnak has been
working to resolve
the problem. One
gets solved and
another one appears. We’ve
notified the insurance
company as we lost
a television, 20
monitors, and the
air conditioning
units in the Computer
Labs keep going
off as well as
the “internal
workings” of
the server and
system.
- The
PTG fundraiser
supplies most of
the money that
is needed for their
yearly activities. Their
yearly budget is
approximately $15,000
a year. Their
activities include
the assemblies
(these are about
$600/assembly),
the buses for field
trips (about $250/bus),
snacks for school
parties, the SMART
Tuition Management
Family Fee, and
the Kindergarten
and 8th grade graduation
celebrations. Please
help your PTG continue
to sponsor these
events. Ask
your students about
the “prize
package!”
- The
drawing for the
Steelers tickets
took place after
Mass last Friday,
September 7. Michel
Kuntz, the first
name drawn, took
the tickets and
Sue Neil, the second
name drawn, received
the $1,000. The
Grenci and BonAnno
families respectively
sold the winning
tickets. We
collected $27,210. This
money goes to our
share of the cost
for the new boiler. Many,
many thanks to
all who helped
raise that amount
of money.
- This
Sunday, September
16, marks the
movement into
the winter/spring
sports seasons. The
Athletic Association
is sponsoring the
registration/physicals
for all sports
for students in
Grades 3-8 at Butler
Catholic who want
to play basketball
or soccer. This
year, our Basketball
Program is also
open to any third
grader – girl
or boy – interested
in learning the
game. Details
are on the enclosed
flyer.
- We
are desperately
in need of an evening
maintenance person. The
work entails the
daily sweeping
of the first floor
classrooms and
hallways, the faculty
dining room/kitchen,
and twice a week
the Library and
Chapel. Hours
are 5:30 PM – 9:30
PM, Monday through
Friday, during
the school year. The
position is open
to any capable
male or female,
preferably out
of high school. Please
call me at 724-285-4276
if you or someone
you know are interested.
- Again
we remind you,
please call the
School Office
if your child will
not be present
for class that
day. Also,
if there is a change
in their normal
dismissal, please
send in a note
with your child. We cannot accept
the child’s
verbal statement. This
is to protect your
child’s well
being.
- There
is a lot of information
in today’s
packet including
information on
the Winter Wonderland
Event! This
event will be the
first BIG STEP
in reaching the
$75,000 fundraising
total we need to
raise for the budget. Buying
BCBucks and Market
Day helps both
you with tuition
and us reaching
that budget line. Keep
up the good work!!
As
we complete our
first full week of
school, may we pause
to thank our Provident
God for His many
blessings. Basking
in the warmth of
His ever-constant
love, may He fill
your lives with His
very special blessings. Thank
you for being the
warm and caring families
that you are. God
bless!
Gratefully,
Sister
