August 1, 2006

Sister John AnnDear Parents,

Welcome to the 2006-07 school year.  A “glad you’re back” and a “glad you’re joining us” to all – our “veterans” as well as our “rookies!”

To help keep things in an “easy-to-read format,” I will use a “listing structure.”

  • School begins on Tuesday, August 29, at 8:00 AM.   It will be a half-day with a NOON dismissal.  All students will report to the gym.  Bus schedules will come to you from your district.

  • Homeroom assignments will be given out from my Office on Tuesday, August 15, from 10:00 AM—Noon and from 6:00—7:00 PM.  Gym uniforms, writing tablets & composition books (Grades 1, 2, & 3), and the required assignment book will be on sale in the Cafeteria.  Writing tablets are $1.00 each and assignment books are $3.00 each.  Basic supplies may be purchased at your favorite store.  A supply list is attached.

  • Chances for 2 Steeler season tickets are on sale for $25 per chance.  The side-by-side seats are four rows behind the Steeler bench.  Only 2500 tickets will be sold.  You can pick up a book of tickets in the school office to take to work.  We are able to have a table at WalMart on Friday, August 18.  If you can give one hour to help sell, please call Kristen Singleton at 724-287-7195.  We have moved the air conditioning of the Auditorium to the top of the “must do” list.  Let’s make this a 100% goal reached project.  The bids in April were between 35,000 and 45,000 dollars.  Let’s go for it!!!

  • To help transition to the new school year, we will have grade-oriented Information Meetings.  They will be:
Monday,
August 21
7:00 PM Grades 1 & 2 Student presence optional
  8:00 PM Grades 3 & 4 Student presence optional
Tuesday,
August 22
7:00 PM Grades 5-8 Students ARE to be present  (7th & 8th graders will pick languages, electives, & specials cycle)
Wednesday, August 23 7:00 PM Kindergarten Students are to be present (Bus orientation for children)
  • Applications for free and reduced lunches will be available in the Main Office on August 15.  The cost of a school lunch remains at $2.00 per lunch; milk is 30 cents if not purchased with a school lunch.  The menu will be in the first day packet.
  • All busses are scheduled to be here at 7:50 AM.  The tardy bell is 7:55 AM.  Students who are not IN THEIR HOMEROOM SEATS at 7:55 AM are considered TARDY.  Chronic tardiness will result in disciplinary action.

  • While recognizing the need for some children to have cell phones, the importance of an uninterrupted educational learning experience remains our top priority.  If students are to have a cell phone in school, the following procedure is to be observed:
  1. Student is to request a parental permission form from the Office.  The form is to be completed and returned to the Office to be kept on file.

  2. All cell phones will be turned in to the Office in the morning upon arrival and retrieved at the end of the day.  This is to protect the students from theft and dishonesty.

  3. Parents are to call the School Office if they need to contact their child/ren during the school day.
  4. Violations of this procedure will result in disciplinary action.

There is still one area of our school that needs attention—the grounds.  On Saturday, August 26, we ask for your help for weeding, trimming the shrubs, and “cleaning up the outside.”  We’ll go from 8:00 AM—Noon.  All hands are welcome!

Exciting things are planned for this school year.  I am looking forward to seeing all of the children very soon.  We
still have openings for all grades.  We would “love to have” a few more Kindergarteners in both sessions.  If you bring a new student/family to school, perhaps there will be a “reward.”

Enjoy the remaining days of vacation.  May you always feel the warmth of our loving, Provident God surrounding you.  May He bless you abundantly each day!  God bless!

Gratefully,

Sister John Ann
