September 3, 2004
Dear Parents,
On the back of this letter is the menu for our first week of Cafeteria Service. We’re still "not quite there," but are ready enough to begin on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8. Tuesday will be another bring your lunch day".
In order for this program to work, we need your help and cooperation. Volunteers for serving and playground duty ARE CRUCIAL to the success of the lunch program. I need to meet with all volunteers on Tuesday, September 7, at 10:00 a.m. in the Cafeteria. Please try to be there.
Now, some information about the lunch program:
- The cost of lunch is $2. Tickets may be purchased in a strip of five for $10 (no discounts for buying a strip). Every Monday, the money/check must be in an envelope clearly marked "Lunch Tickets" with the child’s name and room number. Please make checks payable to "Butler Catholic Cafeteria." (The Cafeteria must be a separate account.)
- Lunch for individual days may be purchased. Again, with K-4, money should be in an envelope with the child’s name and room number on it. Extra milk may be purchased for 30 cents. Older students will pay at the end of the line each day.
- Until the parts for the ice machine come in, we cannot offer the salad bar for the 7th and 8th graders. Hopefully, that will be next week.
- The alternate to the main entrée will be a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. This will be offered daily.
- We are still "fine tuning the menu." There will be four days (Monday thru Thursday) of "cooked here" food. On Friday, we will have pizza brought in from one of the local pizzerias. That lunch will always include a salad or veggie sticks, cookie, fruit and milk.
As this is a new venture for us, we ask for your patience. Again, children are not forced to "finish their tray." They need to take at least "two bites" of everything. And please, if you know that your child doesn’t like a certain food, please don’t pack it. While we are not in the government school lunch program, we still must follow the guidelines for a "nutritionally sound lunch."
I’m certain that the lunches we serve this year will be a big improvement over last year. Just please be patient as we begin this new venture.
May our Provident God watch over you, blessing you abundantly each day. Gratefully,
Sister John Ann |
